Friends, I know I should be writing a piece today on something chewy. I should be writing about dealing with grief or dissolving fatigue, or even on how swearing drags down your energy. I should be a useful holistic coach today. However, my mind is too light. This may be partly from spending an evening examining how childhood can help adulthood (https://kebbabutton.wordpress.com/2024/04/14/healthy-happy-loving-life-childhood-vs-your-best-adult-life/(opens in a new tab)), or it may be the light weather outside—sunny with a high of 78. Or it may be from spending a half hour reading a long New Yorker article on flying cars. You are welcome to have your own now for only $200,000. Yesterday, I was still thinking about why people idolize the childhood years, a day after a dinner show explored “Forever Young”. And even after going to a friend’s book signing—and who doesn’t love a Betty Webb mystery novel– I was pensive and had a headache all evening.
I had to shake that low mood, and I don’t like to take a headache pill unless I must. Both alcohol and sugar are false friends for me. So, I did what works for me, to bust a somber mood: I ate a large organic salad and had giant blueberries for dessert. I drank lots of good water. And I successfully avoided washing the dishes (15 points).
I still felt low, though better. So I turned to my power mood-busting trick: trolling YouTube for the absurd. Jackpot! I found a parrot who sings along to Rolling Stones songs (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihDWK9c7lJE ), a parakeet who poses dramatically to impress his female friend , and a German Shepherd whose ears dance along with his favorite song (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/vTe4Vy8Y0_w?feature=share).
I found a nonviolent way a man invented to prevent thieves from invading his garage: (https://youtube.com/shorts/hGk8LFVp7xk?si=w2TehR-YB7RdAv93. I laughed as the thief ran off!
And best of all, I found a new-to-me short clip from one of my favorite ventriloquists, Jeff Dunham, in which he has to run across the stage after his mini-me puppet! His mini-me puppet is called Little Jeff: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Qc5ftoZz4vQ?feature=share
All in all, I went to bed feeling much better, and in the morning, I woke up feeling good, free of the low mood. Success!
So what works for you (other than alcohol, sugar, or drugs), to lift a low mood? Please share in the comments section! Do you have a formula? Since we are all different, what works for you will be…exactly what works for you. And that will be you, ever more Healthy, Happy, and Loving Life!sm
