In my last post, I described Peace Within, and I shared the many names it goes by.  I said how important it is to have a solid inner habit of Peace Within, so that no matter what happens, you are peaceful and effective.  Nasty people will not upset you, noise and bustle will not upset you, and rude news headlines will not rock your internal boat.  Instead, you will remain internally serene, like the seated woman in traffic, in the image above.  So how exactly do you get to your personal Peace Within?

FIRST:  Choose that you want to have this deeply calm inner core.  Set your intention.  Write it down, journal about it, and/or post it.  This will change your life.

SECOND:  Check your spiritual belief system. Remind yourself that the Divine is greater than any issues that would normally shake you.  Divine Love is infinite.  We simply are out of touch with it so much of the time. Journal about your beliefs.

THIRD:  Become aware of your tense body posture, drop your shoulders, and choose a relaxed and casual posture, checking a few times a day. Your relaxed, even serene, body positioning will signal your nervous system and brain that you have Peace Within.  You will begin being less reactive to whatever unpleasant news or happenings.  Look how serene the woman in the above picture is!

FOURTH:  Become aware of how you are talking to yourself, and start replacing negative phrases with new, peaceful scripts.  Anytime you hear yourself thinking a negative or stressed phrase, substitute a positive one.  This is not the same as affirmations.  This is deeper.

FIFTH:  Support your new resolve by the media you feed yourself.  Switch off video war games, war movies and tense TV/movie dramas; they are designed to hook your fear, not help you be peaceful and centered.  Watch TV shows about beautiful landscapes and cute animals and fun travels.  Read books that make you feel good.  Read poetry that makes you feel good and peaceful.  Pull out your books of daily inspirations, designed to strengthen your heart and increase your confidence.  A great one of these books is my latest book, Inspirations for Peace Within–Quotes and Images to Uplift and Inspire.  Designed to fit easily in your laptop case, in your purse, or on your bedside table, this is the 100-page book to pour into your head, with hundreds of quotes, encouragements, and beautiful images that transport.  Read the quotes and poems often.  Start anywhere in the book, and pick it up again, reading any pages.  Do this on rising and as you’re going to sleep at night.  In 3 days, you will notice a terrific transformation.  To get either the full-color pdf ebook ($10 per copy) or the softback book ($20 per copy, which includes postage), simply PayPal your payment   to kebba@kebba.com.  If you prefer an invoice, just let us know.  We want to support your Peace Within!  (Yes, you can see our books and reviews on Amazon.com, but they are out of stock and copies are only available through the office.  Contact us!)

And that will be you, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Healthy Happy Loving Life:  Wouldn’t You Like Peace Within?

My first book, Discover The Secret Energized You, exposed the ongoing exhaustion people have from a stress-accumulating lifestyle.  It covered causes and solutions for stress.  It offered that people can actually trade in their stress habits for energizing habits and end up feeling younger, healthier, happier and more vital.  In taking this material to groups, I was surprised to find most people don’t have a calm center to touch in with.  Most people don’t have peace within.  While my book offered ways to calm down, to feel more centered, and to release stress, it did not cover in detail how to create and build up a personal inner reservoir of utterly serene, grounded  centeredness.  I have heard motivational speakers and pastors exhort people: “Don’t let anyone steal your peace!”  But what if a person has no fundamental inner peace and perhaps never did?  What if you had ways to discover that calm, sure center, or build it, or strengthen deeply the peace within you already have?

The bodymind system craves what will help it.  We know from medical studies that there are many benefits of managing stress through relaxation.  The renowned Mayo Clinic lists some of these positive health changes as:  slowing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, slowing breathing, increasing blood flow to major muscles, reducing muscle tension and chronic pain, improving concentration, reducing anger and frustration, and boosting confidence to handle problems.  Clearly, relaxing feels better than stressing over negatives.  A number of approaches can help a person to achieve a state of physical relaxation.

Relaxing the body is not the same as peace within, but it can help get you there.  Peace within is something more: a soul peace, a calm knowingness, a fully heart-installed faith that God is there and all is truly well, whatever the appearance of things.  So, what if your relaxation efforts were coupled with terrific internal surety and serenity?  What if your heart, mind, and soul were on board with your relaxation quest?  What is this state that people seek?  I call it simply peace within. However, it goes by various names:  serenity, soul ease, contentment, personal peace, sweet relief, inner peace, tranquility, peace of mind, soul peace, a calm heart, certainty, centeredness, wellbeing, mental peace, and State of Grace. Perhaps you have heard other expressions for it.

By whatever name, this is the state I would like to help you find, or deepen.  Would you like to experience that?  We’ll say more in tomorrow’s article.  And that will be you, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

2017 Whatever is true

Photo poster by Kebba Buckley Button

Recently, I described the importance and nature of personal peace, or Peace Within (LINK). It’s something I feel very deeply about.  Today, I share more about how to actually move into Peace Within.  Consider these several quotes, and notice how you feel after reading each one.  These are from Chapter 4 of my book, Inspirations for Peace Within: Quotes and Images to Uplift and Inspire:

Peace is present right here and now, in ourselves and in everything we do and see. Every breath we take, every step we take, can be filled with peace, joy, and serenity. The question is whether or not we are in touch with it. We need only to be awake, alive in the present moment.

~ Thich Nhat Hanh

And we know that God makes all things work together for good, for those who love Him.

~ Romans 8:28

Fear less, hope more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Hate less, love more; And all good things are yours.

~ Swedish Proverb

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

~ Phillipians 4:8-9

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.  It’s about learning to dance in the rain.

~Unknown

How do your heart and spirit feel now?  Did one or two of the quotes touch you deeply? Try journaling about what Peace Within means to you, and how differently you function when you are in a peaceful state. Feel your body shift as your heart and spirit shift.  And that’s you, being more and more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Stress Attack: How to Beat That!

stress, stress management, Peace Within, Stress is contagious

What a beautiful day out. Life feels good, and you are so grateful for all your blessings! You just lost 5 pounds you didn’t want. Your car has 4 new tires and a full tank of gas. You got the bills paid online this morning and now you’re off to run errands. The first errand is depositing a big check from a new client. You feel at one with life, joyful without having to think about it. Your heart is light, and you are optimistic. You are In Joy Meant. You are in harmony with the Universe and in the flow with the traffic, on the road and on the Internet. You’re deep in your Peace Within. And then:

  • An angry person blasts you with a vicious text or email, or
  • A loved one calls, storming about a conflict at work, or
  • When you’re almost home, a stressed driver rear-ends you.

Your serenity is shattered. Your heart is racing. Your mind has gone blank and you can’t concentrate. This is it: you’re about to catch major stress from someone else. What can you do to shed this stress trying to take possession of your body-mind system? Immediately apply these steps for stress first aid!

  1. Drop your shoulders and exhale, to and through your toes. Do this three times. Notice your heart calming. Repeat as needed.
  2. When both your hands are free, place your right hand over your heart and your left on your mid-back, if you can reach it. Between your shoulder blades, you’ll find a sore vertebra. Hold that one. Notice your body calming more deeply.
  3. Think of how peaceful you felt right before this happened, and call that serenity back. Give this 30 seconds, at least.
  4. Take 2 squirts of Bach Rescue Remedy spray (available at most health food stores- can be taken hourly). For future, keep Rescue Remedy in your home, desk, purse, and briefcase for rough days and sudden jolts.
  5. If you don’t have Rescue Remedy, suck on a mint. Seriously! The mint itself is alkaline and will help your acid-base balance. No, the cinnamon flavor is not equally good. The fact that you are massaging the center of your tongue with that mint means you are connecting to some of your deepest energy lines and calming yourself. This connection is one reason for stress eating.

Now you should feel cool enough to carry on with the most reasonable strategy for the jolting situation. Do your best. Keep exhaling.

And remember:

  1. This stress wasn’t yours before the jolt, and it doesn’t have to be yours now. You can move through this with calm and with a light heart, open to the stress dissolving quickly
  2. Don’t move your consciousness into the center of the stress. Stay in your own mental space while considering it.
  3. Whatever it is, this too shall pass.

Yes, stress can attack any of us suddenly! But you can move through it and not keep it. You can get back to your day and your Peace Within.

Sometimes, you just have One of Those Days, right?  This morning, I had an appointment, then needed to prepare handouts and look great for a professional group meeting.  I felt pushed to get everything together on time, but by dropping the manicure, I did make the meeting on time with all my bits and pieces.  The meeting took surprising turns, yet, there was a lot of interest in my upcoming classes.  Someone even registered right away.  Toward the end of the meeting, my phone signaled silently that my neighbors were ready for me to come by; I took the call, dashing out of the meeting room to start talking.  I told them I could come by in about 45 minutes.  I gave thanks repeatedly, for the goodness of the meeting, and for the new registrant, all the way home.  The repetition of the Thank You was very calming.

Stress, stress management, Peace Within

At home, I changed into jeans and went to help the neighbors move.  They gifted me with a carload of garden pots and décor.  I was exhausted from lifting and carrying.  Heading back to my door, I saw the plumbing van.  Within a half hour, I was in full swing as Immediate Past President of the HOA, negotiating settlement of a sewer overflow issue, hiring remediation, planning a hotel for the resident, signing a contract.  I called my husband and asked if, by chance, he would like to go out for dinner?  I was too exhausted for stand and cook—although  I love my own cooking—and I still had writing to do in the evening.  We had a lovely quick dinner nearby, and we toasted to Us with margaritas.

Whew!  So when you have a really full day, loaded with changes, what can you do to manage your stress and not just SCREAM?

  1.  Actually, screaming would be good, if you had a pillow and a bathroom to retreat to.  You can actually scream into a pillow and discharge a lot of stress.  Unless someone hears you.  They worry!
  2. Keep alert for things you can drop.  I dropped the manicure and just quickly filed my nail tips.  That bought me 40 minutes that I dearly needed.
  3. Have a long, slow exhale to the end of your breath.  Imagine any negative rolling right out of you, with your breath.  Then take several slow breaths.  This will shift your metabolism to alkaline, due to the new balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide, relaxing you within 60 seconds.  Cool, huh?
  4. Wherever you are, roll those shoulders in a stretching movement, in any direction.  Notice the warmth in your feet?
  5. If some of your stress is FEAR of something, gently massage your forefinger.  Notice how your fears seem less urgent.

Do any of these things, and you can beat that sensation of “crazy” on a busy day with a lot of changes.  And scream privately!  It helps.

UpBeat Living: Peaceful World: Day 15 of Season for NonViolence (SNV): Reverence

We’re now beginning the third week of the 64-day Season for NonViolence (SNV).  The SNV was created by the Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), as a way of inviting people to develop their consciousness and practice of nonviolent approaches to problem solving.  When we look at peaceful living, we find that much of the process of developing nonviolence actually begins with one’s relationship with self, together with one’s relationship with all Life.

Here is AGNT’s meditation for SNV Day 15:

DAY 15 Feb. 13:  The thought for today is REVERENCE.   Reverence for all life is fundamental to Ahimsa; it is the ultimate rationale for nonviolence – for how can one willingly do harm to that for which one has reverence – and towards which one has the love that reverence engenders?

In the main, reverence for life dictates the same sort of behavior as the ethical principle of love. But reverence for life contains within itself the rationale of the commandment to love, and it calls for compassion for all creature life.   –Albert Schweitzer

Reverence is a virtue that prepares us well to belong to one another; it reaches out to those who have given messages of not wishing to belong.  When we approach others with gentle reverence, we bring gifts and share theirs with us.  -Paula Ripple

Today:  I open myself up to a feeling of reverence for all forms of life, especially each and every person that I meet during the day.   I’ll take a walk outside and experience the beauty that surrounds me as I BE with the sky, the plants and animals, as well as my brothers and sisters.

UpBeat Living: Peaceful World: Day 7 of Season for NonViolence (SNV)

Today is Day 7 of the annual Season for NonViolence (SNV).  For the 64 days of the SNV, we explore ways to grow nonviolence , often through developing ourselves and our inner peace.  Today’s theme is education.  A key way to grow nonviolence is for us to grow in our knowledge and therefore in our understanding.  We must all understand each other more, to create the sustainable peace we desire for the Planet.  We can all understand nonviolence more.  We can all put “nonviolence” in the search bar of our web browser and read one article of the many that pop up.  We can always grow.  Are you in?

Here is AGNT’s meditation for Day 7:

DAY 7 Feb. 5: The thought for today is EDUCATION.  Knowledge strengthens your conviction and deepens your understanding and acceptance.  Martin Luther King, Jr. said,

“We must remember that intelligence is not enough.  Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”

The complete education teaches how to live by the principles which benefit us and the people around us.

Learn about the power of nonviolence by educating yourself.  Read an article, periodical or book; watch a video on a subject that relates to nonviolence.  Learn about human rights, diversity, ecology, history, politics, forgiveness, spirituality, peace studies, biographies of heroes and more.

Today:  I consciously expand my knowledge about nonviolence.  I will share what I have learned with at least three other people, and invite them to learn, too.

UpBeat Living: What’s Personal Peace? Part 1

My first book, Discover The Secret Energized You, addressed the ongoing exhaustion people have from a stress-accumulating lifestyle.  It covered causes and solutions for stress.  It offered that people can actually trade in their stress habits for energizing habits and end up feeling younger and more vital.  In taking this material to groups, I was surprised to find most people don’t have a calm center to touch in with.  Most people don’t have peace within.  While my book offered ways to calm down, to feel more centered, and release stress, it did not cover creating and building up a personal inner reservoir of utterly serene centeredness.  I have heard motivational speakers and pastors exhort people:  “Don’t let anyone steal your peace!”  But what if a person has no fundamental inner peace?  This new book, then, Peace Within, is a tool for people to use in looking for that calm, sure center, or building it, or strengthening the peace within they do already have.

Do you believe that life is basically good?  In 1963, in the United States of America, the national mood was relatively optimistic and peaceful.  Then, in November, President John F. Kennedy was shot to death in Dallas, in front of many people.  There was widespread shock and sadness.  Individuals were jolted out of their sense of well-being.  In schools, teachers went into the hallways and whispered to each other.  Finally, the students were told why the teachers were whispering.  There was astonishment, upset, and tears.  Across the country, churches opened their sanctuaries for those who sought to process their pain, to find their peace within once more.

Now, almost 50 years later, life in the USA is mainly urban, busy, and noisy.  People hold their cellphones and iPods close.  Many live such a mental life and in such concentrated communication that they check and send email on a computer or phone while attending a live meeting.  War, tsunamis, floods, fires, recessions, national security and budget issues, together with crowded populations, erode people’s confidence that life is indeed good.  People seek relief from worry, fear, overstimulation, and generalized stress.  They seek comfort, calm, serenity, relaxation, inner peace and “letting go”.

And well they should. Clearly, relaxing feels better than stressing.  A number of approaches can help a person to achieve a state of physical relaxation.

Relaxing the body is not the same as peace within, but it can help get you there.  Peace within is something more, a soul peace, a calm knowingness, a fully heart-installed faith that God is there and all is truly well, whatever the appearance of things.  So, what if your relaxation efforts were coupled with terrific internal surety and serenity?  What if your heart, mind, and soul were on board with your relaxation quest?  What is this state that people seek?  This book has called it peace within.
