What’s on your mind?
In my holistic- and energy healing practice of many years, I treat headaches more often than any other discomfort. The image above reminds us that the mind takes a battering from stressful thoughts and feelings, as does the brain itself. Also taking pressure from stress is the entire head and its attachments–muscles, ligaments, and all attached tissue. Which makes you wonder, with all the stress in the world, why everyone doesn’t have headaches? I once met a man who said he never had had a headache. Excellent!
Note that I am not covering migraine headaches in today’s discussion. However, if you have been diagnosed with migraine, these pointers may help also.
Now, for the rest of us, here are some pointers from my expertise in dealing with headaches.
- In oriental energy medicine, it is understood that different stressful thoughts lodge in different parts of the body. So in my office, I immediately ask the headache sufferer where exactly the head hurts: across the top of the head, front of the forehead, back of the skull, sides of the head over the ears, or vaguely wrapping from the front of the face to the back (especially if accompanied by vague nausea). I am highlighting 3 of these types of headaches in this article.
- Head pain across the top of the head, much like the illustration above, means your deepest stress level is affected. Gently roll your shoulders and try to relax. Repeat. Lying down may help, plus reflecting on your biggest priorities and letting some things go. Some people have gotten this head pain from taking opioids, so if you are taking those, coordinate with your doctor.
- Head pain at the front of the forehead. This can be sinus/allergy disharmony, as when you have just walked through a field of pollen or dust. It can also mean kidney meridian stress. In that case, eliminating the following can help: artificial sweeteners, added salt, caffeine, chocolate.
Also, try putting your right hand on the pain, just as in the above photo.
- Head pain at the sides of the head.
This is often from frustration stress. It can also be from eating rich foods and/or alcohol. Your best weapons are accepting what is (another upcoming column) and going from there, plus holding your head just as in this photo. Eating lean foods will help also.
- For any head pain, gently rolling and stretching your shoulders may help. Also, gently running in place may help. These approaches are quick, free, and worth a try, so why not?
My goal as an energy therapist and holistic guide is to relieve as much pain and discomfort as I can, in my lifetime. When you feel good, you will be happier, and when you are happier, you can be grateful and enjoy life. It’s a system I like to call: Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm! Why not go for it?
