Kebba teaching Peace Within

I’ve been invited to share the backstory of my holistic coaching and healing practice.  Before I was known for holistic pain management and teaching effective living skills, I was actually a well-known hydrologist.  For a few years, I worked for the Army Corps of Engineers, on the Tucson (AZ) Urban Study.  We were evaluating the possibilities for Federal participation for major projects in Tucson.

Unfortunately, during my hydrology/engineering days, at age 26, I was suddenly stricken with an intense burning condition, from head to toe.  There was a great stiffness with it, and I began to lose flexibility in my hands.  I went to the “finest arthritis doctor in the Southwest”, and he had no answers for me.  (Thanks a lot!)  Left to my own devices, I began talking with all the arthritics I could find, about what helped them.  They said diet and exercise were the important things– two factors no one was discussing at that time, other than for figure control.  It took me 8 years, but at age 33, using diet, exercise, and Oriental energy therapy, I noticed the condition was gone.  By then, I was so interested in natural pain relief, that I could not imagine staying in engineering.  So I took some therapy courses, gave 2 weeks notice, and left engineering.

I already had 2.8 degrees in sciences from well-known universities.  Over the years, I became an expert in energy therapies, especially Jin Shin Jyutsu.  That art looks like accupressure (with two c’s for accurate, not acu, meaning needle) and feels like your pain and stiffness are “melting”.  I began writing articles (now over 600, free, and online) and books.  I now give workshops on:

  • energy therapies, meditation
  • trading in your stress for energy
  • dealing with difficult people and situations
  • using words to create the life you want
  • finding your Peace Within.
  • A class at the Franciscan Renewal Center (retreat center in Scottsdale, AZ) even included a practicum in Walking Labyrinth Meditation.  Today, in the wake of the pandemic, I coach/counsel some clients through Zoom, and I give energy healing sessions in my office.  Classes are mainly on Zoom.  Pain, stiffness, depression, frustration– people bring those to my office and leave them there.

In 2022, I renamed my practice “Healthy Happy Loving Life”, rather than “Healing Therapeutics.”  When you feel healthy, you can be happier, and when you are happier, you can feel gratitude more easily.  And when you have those qualities, you can really put your arms around your life and truly love it.

Today, my favorite studies are in neurobiology, the role of the vagus nerve in our health, and the role of EMFs (Electromagnetic Frequencies) in our ill health.  Perhaps this month, I will write about some of that.  Meanwhile, do you have any questions about holistic answers for pain and illness?

Try my recommendations, and that will be you, more and more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

One of the things I enjoy most in my year is writing for the Ultimate Blog Challenge every 3 months; in each cycle is a fresh start.  I create and post an article with photos and social media links every day, for 31 days.  Then I read and comment on the other writers’ blog posts, and my world opens up more each day.  I get such connections!  I now have friends in Tennessee, Switzerland, Georgia, South Carolina, New York, and India. Real friends, as well as writer cohorts.  They range from age 5 to 75.  I hope my writings will both uplift and amuse my readers and sometimes make them think about trying new habits, so they can enjoy their lives more.  I now have over 600 of these articles on my blog, sharing the themes from my natural healing and coaching practice. Today is the first piece of the January 2023 series.

Part of the fun of being in a blog challenge is the creativity of coming up with a topic every day.  So I collect topics all the time, and they’re stored in a Secret Stash in my computer.  The UBC organizer, Digital Maestro Paul Taubman, provides a prompt each day during the challenge.  Sometimes I use it, and sometimes I am more drawn to something else.

Today, Happy New Year 2023!  Of course, I’m thinking a lot about different kinds of fresh starts– some we’ve chosen, and some Life has thrust upon us.  Right now, I’m re-inventing life as a recent widow and also a cancer survivor.  Yes, at the same time.  In 2021, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer, had surgery, started chemo– all as my late husband passed away.  All these changes kicked off within 3 weeks.  So fresh starts have been forced upon me.  I spent my year of chemo also as a new widow.  And now I am coming out of the shock and chemo-weakness, and I’m asking, “Who am I now?”  “What does my home look like?”  “What do I like to do for fun?”  “Who do I like to do fun things with?”

Each day, I always have prayer practice and positive mind/heart practice, even before breakfast.  One of the bright spots in my daily routine is glancing at the picture above, of the bird and baby staring at each other.  I found the image as a magnet, in a hospital in Denver, when my mother was there for some serious surgery.  The photographer, the late John Schoenwalter, liked to bike around Denver and snap the images that caught his eye.  This is one of them.  I receive this message, by Sister Barbara Hance, anew, every time I look at the image.  I smile, and my heart fills.  My mother made a perfect recovery after surgery.  She had a fresh start.  Whenever I look at the bird and baby looking at each other, I know I can always have a fresh start, even after chemo and loss of my husband.

Is there an area of your life in which you would like to declare a fresh start?  Why not do it now?  Then that would be you, even more awesome, and ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

As a writer, one of the best Fun Things I do is write for the Ultimate Blog Challenge every 3 months.  I create and post an article with photos and social media links every day, for 31 days!  Then I read and comment on the other writers’ blog posts, and my world opens up more each day.  And I make wonderful friends.  I hope my writings will entertain my readers and sometimes make them go “hmmmm”, prompting changes in habits that help them enjoy their lives more.  At this point, I have over 600 articles on my blog, representing my natural healing and coaching practice. Today is the last piece of the July 2022 series.

Part of the fun of being in a blog challenge is the creativity of coming up with a topic every day.  So I collect topics all the time, and they’re stored in a Secret Stash in my electronics.  The UBC organizer, Digital Maestro Paul Taubman, provides a prompt each day during the challenge.  Sometimes I use it, and sometimes I am more drawn to something else.

One of the Fun Things I found this month was an item featured in a British newspaper I read, The Telegraph. It seems, in Austin, Texas, USA, there is a golden retriever that just loves to let himself up on his family’s roof!  Then he stays for hours, depending on the weather.  His name is Huckleberry, or Huck for every day.  Huck has been amazing passersby with his rooftop sentry mode now, since 2017.  Huck is on Facebook, Instagram, The Dodo, and his own website.  He has been featured on major news shows.  Just search “Huck the Roof Dog” to see more images and videos. He draws enough concerned attention that his family had to post a sign saying not to worry about the dog on the roof.  He figured out how to get up there, and he loves it.  When the family expanded their house, they made sure to maintain Huck’s access, and he now has his own ramp.

Are you smiling now?  Fill your mind with positive news and the negative news will be much less distressing! This will also let your nervous system reset, and you will literally feel better.  And that would be you, even more awesome, and ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

In my daily series this month, I have hoped to strongly convince you that positive living is the way to be, and that it results in greater health and happiness and joy.  Plus, it’s more fun!  And that would be me and you, shaping our lives as we want them, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

And–wouldn’t you like to subscribe?  See you in the next post!

Healthy Happy Loving Life: Top 7 Diet Myths to Dump

Very few people have always been satisfied with what they weigh.  Young teens are dieting to try to get rid of unwanted pounds, to get that ideal Hollywood body.  Have you been through one day with other people, without someone bemoaning their weight gain or talking about needing to lose it?  Unlikely!  It’s a cultural obsession.  But our cultural obsession also holds dear a number of completely false ideas about how to lose weight!  Here, then, are the top 7 Diet Myths that are keeping you from losing the pounds you want to lose:

  1. Counting calories leads to weight loss. Eat fewer calories and you will lose weight. Truth: the body doesn’t metabolize all foods the same way. You can’t lose weight eating 1200 calories worth of candy every day.
  2. If you lose a bunch of weight, your waist will be smaller. Truth: waist size doesn’t work that simply. Taxed organs (liver, stomach, intestines) may be swollen and not respond to weight loss or fat loss per se. Look at all the barrel-chested British actors, whose heavy drinking has led to swollen livers and therefore swollen abdomens and lifted ribcages. Lower intake of alcohol and sugars can help this effect. Also, lack of abdominal muscle tone can lead to stretching of the girth. Yoga poses such as Suryanamaskar (Salutation to the Sun) and abdominal lifts can assist in toning the abdomen. It’s good to think of dieting and exercise as natural partners within your overall weight loss program.
  3. You should tell all your friends you are dieting, for accountability. Truth: you need your own positive program and internal scripting to strengthen your way to your weight goals. You don’t need friends chatting about your fitness. On the other hand, a diet buddy working the same program can be a great help.
  4. There is an ideal diet somewhere, if only I can find it. Truth: There is no single diet that works for all metabolisms. Be sure to coordinate with your doctor before embarking on a diet/exercise program. Be sure your blood profile doesn’t need adjusting first. You may need thyroid supplementation, for example, and balancing this one factor could cause a few pounds to melt away. Some people have lost dozens of pounds by eliminating foods they are allergic to. And in either of these cases, the people felt much better, also. Further, a large metastudy (study of the results of many studies) of many diet plans concluded that almost all diet plans work– if you stick with them.
  5. Intermittent fasting must be the best plan because it’s new. Truth: Intermittent fasting works well for some people, but maybe not you. Some people have felt ill trying to use this technique.
  6. Dieting will fix my weight problem. Truth: if you stop thinking of LOSING WEIGHT you’ll be more successful! Your subconscious knows it’s bad to lose stuff! So your subconscious will try hard to keep you from losing weight. Switch to “releasing bulk I no longer need” and measure your inches instead of your pounds. Talk to your subconscious every day about how much easier everything will be with less bulk, and how good you’ll feel with less bulk. Thank your body and bless it for all its wondrous functions.
  7. Food is the key to weight loss– or release of bulk. Truth: Dieters who are the most successful support themselves in creating this shift by using a wise food plan, a wise exercise plan, and supplemental activities like meditation. They also go dancing with friends and only drink soda water while they’re out. They drink lots of water throughout the day.
So what’s the best formula for success? First set a goal. Then coordinate with your doctor, start thinking of releasing bulk and gaining fitness, choose a reasonable food plan, start a simple workout plan (yoga, walking, swimming), and play around with meditation techniques. And get some energy healing; learn some weight release points to hold.
And that will be you: ever more HHLL, stepping into your new bulk-balanced life!

Be sure to let me know what you experience.  And that will be you, ever more Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm!  Now you’re stepping into your new bulk-balanced life!

In my daily series this month, I hope to strongly convince you that positive living is the way to be, and that it results in greater health and happiness and joy.  Plus, it’s more fun to live this way!  And that would be me and you, shaping our lives anew, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Healthy Happy Loving Life: Dumping Guilt and Worry

I seek to learn more about happiness and fulfillment all time, and to share about happiness and fulfillment with my clients and cohorts.  One of the most profound ideas I ever learned was long ago, from reading a book by psychologist Dr. Wayne Dyer, Your Erroneous Zones.  The idea is that you can not live at any moment other than the Present.  Wayne weaves this principle through a chapter of Your Erroneous Zones, in the guise of Chapter 5:  The Useless Emotions: Guilt and Worry.

Wayne explains that guilt is for what we may have messed up in the Past, and worry is for what we may mess up or encounter in the Future.  But back to this now-living thing.  After reading this chapter, I began to observe my immediate environment more.  I started being more aware of my Present, practicing really being present to my Present.  I have enjoyed life more ever since, because I began paying attention to my Now Life, rather than letting my thoughts run through, for example, my day at the office, while I was driving.

Wayne writes:

You see examples of guilt and worry everywhere, in virtually everyone you meet.  The world is populated with folks who are either feeling horrible about something that they shouldn’t have done or dismayed about things that might or might not happen.  You are probably no exception.  If you have large worry and guilt zones, they must be exterminated, spray-cleaned and sterilized forever.  Wash out those little “w” and “g” bugs that infest so many sectors of your life.

Guilt and worry are perhaps the most common forms of distress in our culture.  With guilt you focus on a past event, feel dejected or angry about something that you did or said, and use up your present moments being occupied with feelings over the past behavior.  With worry, you use up those valuable nows, obsessing about a future event.  Whether you’re looking backward or forward, the result is the same.  You’re throwing away the present moment.

Play around with this notion a little each day.  Practice bringing yourself back to the here and now, when your thoughts wander too much into the past and the future.  Especially if you are in guilt or worry.  And let me know what you experience.  And that will be you, ever more HHLL!

Then that will be you, ever more Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm!

In my daily series this month, I hope to strongly convince you that positive living is the way to be, and that it results in greater health and happiness and joy.  Plus, it’s more fun to live this way!  And that would be me and you, shaping our lives anew, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Healthy Happy Loving Life: 12 Top Tips for Cleansing the Energy of Your Space

Have you been dragging lately?  Are you working through times when you have been bored, horrified, angry, sad, or grieving? Well, I have good news for you:  while your personal emotions affect the energy of your space, your space can be cleansed and refreshed!  And that, in turn, will cleanse and refresh your energy and moods.  There are levels on which everything is energy.  So you may as well enjoy your energy!

Cleansing your space—sometimes called “smudging” –is easy.  You just have to think of it and do it.  There are no hard and fast rules.  Here are some tips for success with an energy cleanse.

  1. Pick a day or hour when the outside weather is pleasant, and you would enjoy having your windows open anyway. If your windows don’t open, count on opening the doors and possibly running room fans to keep the air moving.
  2. Pick a sage bundle or wand, or a favorite incense stick; I use Nag Champa incense sticks. If you don’t have those at the moment, use a candle. Pick a lightweight dish or pan you’ll carry under the sage/incense/candle, to absolutely catch any flying or dropping embers.  You don’t want the sparks or embers to touch your clothes or your carpet.
  3. Open your cabinet doors as well as all your windows.
  4. Set your intention. In the form of an affirmation or prayer, say to the Universe or Holy Spirit that you want to now release any old energy and cleanse your entire space.
  5. Light your sage/incense/candle. For incense, blow the big flame out and let the ember end smoke its scent into your space.  Now begin to circulate in every space.  You may want to stroll around thoughtfully, affirming the cleansing as you go, in each area.
  6. Especially circulate near your areas of most concentration (computer?) and fatigue (favorite chair, bed, pillows). When you plop into your favorite recliner at the end of the day, all your fatigue and frustration and busyness of the day go right into that recliner.  That’s why it needs to have its energy cleansed.
  7. Use your own script. Affirm that (in God’s or Jesus’ name, if that feels right) you cleanse this entire area completely.  You now clear it of any negative, tired, old, sick, pained, dissipated, frustrated, or angry energy (add any adjectives that suit you).  And you now fill this entire area completely with new, fresh, clear, light, happy, healthy, blessed, ready-to-go energy.  Keep affirming the clearing and the same excellent new qualities as you go from area to area.  If necessary, do a difficult area twice.  Remember the bathrooms, especially the showers.
  8. When you have circulated in all areas inside, work the doorway areas for several feet outside.
  9. Do all this for your car also. You may be amazed at the stress energy that has accumulated in the car.
  10. Finish with a prayer of thanks or affirmation of gratitude that all is now refreshed and recharged.
  11. Leave the cupboard doors and home/office doors open for an hour if possible. Run the ceiling fans to assure circulation.
  12. ENJOY the light feeling.

And that will be you, ever more Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm!

In my daily series this month, I hope to strongly convince you that positive living is the way to be, and that it results in greater health and happiness and joy.  Plus, it’s more fun!  And that would be me and you, shaping our lives anew, ever more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Healthy Happy Loving Life: 5 Things You Haven’t Seen (Probably)

— photographer unknown–

In my holistic/energy healing practice, I find it very powerful to change your channel.  Changing your channel snaps you out of whatever is stressing you out, and it resets your nervous system.  Often, a novel or surprising sight or event will snap a person into changing their channel.  So here I present Five Things You Haven’t Seen Before– or probably haven’t.  Notice any energy shifts in your system, as you take a good look at each of these things.  And I hope you enjoy.  Above, (1) the stained glass is– not!  It’s a very close up image of dragonfly wings.

Above, (2) is a new flavor of Listerine.  It’s Grapefruit Rose’ flavor, with zero alcohol.  Now wait– if this is for people who don’t want alcohol, why did they give it the name of a wine?  Just sayin’.

When I saw (3), above, I was completely startled!  There I was, completing my grocery shopping escapade, when my eyes became stuck on this display about DEATH.  LIQUID DEATH!  I thought, oh, this must be one of those super-concentrated espresso-plus-vodka type of drinks?  But NO, it’s a water.  In several flavors.  And the pitch is:  “death to thirst”.  No, I didn’t buy a can to try.  I’m still startled at the boldness of this marketing tack.

Right up there with a high Startle Factor is (4), above, a book about dealing with jerks and constructing your life so you have no jerks.  But for marketing, they use an A- word.  Yes, I have ordered a copy, and I’ll let you know if I recommend it.  After all, jerks are a major source of my clients’ stress, pain, and fatigue.

So my last surprise of the week (5) was this lovely pillow, gently encouraging us to relax with our breath.  After all, most of us need to breathe, right?  So we may as well use our breath to relax and release.  Just please start with the EXHALE, or you will have nowhere for the INHALE to go.  Try it!

Now, do you feel refreshed?  You just got a 2-minute break from your habitual worries.  You changed your channel for a short while.  Does your bodymind system feel different?  Good!

I am amazed by the array of things that have their own day—like National Hammock Day, today!  For every day of the year, there is something that is celebrated.  Or 20 things.  Multiple websites, such as NationalDayCalendar.com, let you know what the special celebrations are for the day you’re checking out.  Also, there are months to celebrate some things, like February as National Heart Month, which started with a Presidential proclamation in 1964.  So you can research the special days and months by topic or by date and month.

While I can’t find anything on the origins of National Hammock Day, I have found a little history of the hammock itself. And National Hammock Day has become an internet meme.  Apparently, the fiber sling was a standard sleeping device in Central America, separating the sleeping person from creatures of the jungle floor.  It was brought back to Europe in the 17th Century by explorers. Navies adopted the hammock as a space-saving, comfortable way to sleep on ships.  Today, Amazon (yes, I love Amazon!) has around 1,000 hammock options, in hundreds of natural and lab-made fibers, from the $30 range to the several-hundred-dollar range. My favorite photo website has 1,537 images of hammocks.  So clearly, hammocks are popular today.  Hammocks look attractive, help you relax or slumber, and can be folded up easily for storage or backpacking.  One summer, I was invited to stay at a Colorado cabin in the woods, and I slept in a hammock, slung between 2 extremely tall pines, for several months.  I watched the stars and listened to the coyotes singing at night. Cozy!  And oh yes, my hammock cost around $10 back then.

It should be mentioned that today is (coincidentally?) the day to celebrate two other occasions: Mango Day and Summer Leisure Day. What a perfect fit of three important commemorative days!  Maybe it’s time to blend yourself a mango margarita or smoothie, head for the hammock, and get in some major relaxation!  Relaxing blissfully raises your DHEA, the master hormone, and makes you stronger and younger. So be diligent in celebrating this important day!

What you eat makes a huge difference in how you feel!  This is not an illusion!  Your cells– all 70 trillion of them– have only what you put in your mouth to make new cells from.

So let’s talk protein!  We should all be getting at least 12-18% of our daily calories from protein.  Are you feeling tired, depleted, or wanting to build muscle mass?  Then here are 5 things you’ll want to know about protein.

  1. High-protein foods move more slowly through your system and keep you from feeling hungry.
  2. Protein doesn’t have to mean meat.  It could mean fish, cheese, eggs, nuts, peas/beans/lentils, hemp seeds, or quinoa.  There are also dairy proteins often found in instant shakes or protein shakes.
  3. Complete proteins have all 9 essential amino acids.  Incomplete proteins have fewer than the 9 essential amino acids.  But combining these with foods that contain the missing amino acids can still give you complete protein.  Foods containing complete proteins include: eggs, cheese, meat, soy, and quinoa.
  4. Protein can be quick.  You can buy protein powders to blend into shakes, such as: soy, whey, pea, and mixtures.  Of course, you can buy protein drinks already mixed. Some brands have as much as 30 grams of protein in one tasty serving.  Plus, you can use these pre-mixed protein drinks as coffee creamer.  Just do not confuse energy drinks with protein drinks!  Be sure the label says the product is a protein drink.
  5. Protein can be portable.  Jerky, beef- or turkey sticks, and nuts come pre-packaged and can travel in your purse, waist pack, or laptop case.  Mixed nuts with raisins or other dried fruits are widely available in snack packs that travel well. They also do well in your desk drawer or car door pocket.  Many bottled protein drinks do not require refrigeration, so they also are very portable.

So look around for some of these additional protein sources that are quick and/or convenient.  Especially if you’re rebuilding after an injury or illness, or you want better muscle tone, or you’re losing weight, mind your protein intake, and enjoy your stronger health!

What proteins do you like best?  What forms work best for you?  Enjoy your protein journey!  Here’s to living more in the realm of Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm!
