I recently shared a brief way to break into meditation practice, in 8 quick steps (https://wp.me/pw4HM-1dw).  Many loved it, and some said they couldn’t meditate because their minds were too busy, like the yogini above, and just too full of chatter.  I promised to write a piece on instant calm for busy people, and that’s what brings us to today.  There are many ways I can share, to instantly calm yourself.  Here are 3 hand poses that will take you to calm very fast.

1. Gently place your hands together, palms touching.  The palms access your central nervous system and calm you instantly.  Now exhale.  Drop your shoulders.  Hold for one minute.  Feel the difference.  Feel the sides of your head let go and relax.  Feel your brain slow down.

2.  Place your hands in the classic prayer position, fingers intertwined.  You have now connected most of the meridians in your body to each other.  Exhale.  Drop your shoulders.  Hold for one minute.  Feel the difference as your whole body calms.  Try bringing your hands toward your forehead and leaning in.  Feel the difference.

3.  Place your hands together, palms touching.  Bring this position back to your chest and feel the heart connection.  Hold for one minute.  Notice your face relaxing. Feel the contrast as your mind, body, and spirit calm down.

Apply these moves whenever you need calm.  And let me know (kebba@kebba.com) what you notice in your thoughtstream, your body, and your skin.  And that would be you, increasingly Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Do you ever feel uncentered, even scattered?  Do you ever feel like your brain cells are spinning around, some even escaping your skull?  Do you ever just feel your body and mind are not coordinated with each other?  Like the control tower is out for a latte break?  When you feel this way, it’s hard to think clearly or access your feelings.  And your body’s balance may be off as well, so it’s a bad time to go for a run.  Well, here’s help.

When we quiet the busy body we can quiet the busy mind. The more still we are outside, the more we can find that quiet space inside our hearts and spirits. The more quietude we can experience, the more we can hear the “little voice” inside which is really the “Big Voice”, the Voice of God, the Kol Adonai (Hebrew for Voice of God), or the Christ-Self. The more we practice getting in touch with our innermost selves when we are physically still, the easier it becomes to start carrying the sure Quiet around in externally chaotic times.

  1. First, find a quiet place for a few minutes.  If you are in a busy household or work in a busy office, the quiet place may be a restroom, restroom stall, or your car.  The more you practice these techniques, the less time you will need, as your bodymind system will develop and relish these new habits for getting centered.
  2. Unlock your shoulders.  Now feel your shoulder tops.  Ask yourself if your shoulder tops feel more like pudding (call that a 1) or concrete (call that a 5).  Roll your shoulders for 1 minute, slowly, stretching the muscles.  Roll them in every direction you can imagine.  Now feel the shoulder tops again.  What differences do you find in your left and right shoulder top scores?  Repeat this set for another minute and note your new scores.  Notice the warmth flowing into your feet and hands.  Notice that you are beginning to relax and feel more cogent.
  3. Practice palm-center calming.  Gently allow your shoulders to drop.  Place your center three fingertips of each hand in the center of each opposite palm.  Hold at least three to five minutes.  Feel the metabolism slow and any trembling melt away.  Feel your spinning brain cells wafting gently back into your skull and settling back into their places.
