natural healing, pain relief, JSJ,, Kobe BryantUpBeat Living stands for your most fulfilled life, including your best possible health and wellness, which in turn will make you vital, joyful and fulfilled.  Today, we’re reaching out to anyone who needs to heal from an injury.  Would you like to heal much faster?

Recently, basketball legend Kobe Bryant, of the LA Lakers, ripped/ruptured his left Achilles tendon (attaches to the back of the foot/ankle), making a move said he has made thousands of times before.  Surgeons have repaired it, and Bryant was told to stay in bed for 2 weeks.  Possibly out for months, he is frustrated and also in pain.  He wonders if he will actually make a full recovery and be able to return to his passion, playing professional basketball.

What should he do to heal?  Of course, he will follow his doctors’ orders, including not re-ripping the tendon.  For natural pain relief, he can use the techniques in my recent article, 10 Top Tips for Natural Pain Relief Now! ( http://wp.me/pw4HM-co).  These include certain breathwork, selected applications of stretching and ice, soaking with Epsom Salts, and eating lots of colorful fresh, organic, fruits and veggies, for the healing antioxidants.

But Bryant can also use energy healing, Jin Shin Jyutsu®, to speed his recovery.  If he can reach the injury, even with a cast on, he can hold the injury site with his right hand and place his left hand over the right.  He can also get his visitors to do that for him, while he relaxes, which will also speed recovery.  This can be done for a minute or for hours, as much as you like.  You may notice the hands getting hot.

Another Jin Shin Jyutsu® move to use is to hold the medial wrist at the base of the bone below the left little finger. This is the last point on the hand, on the little finger side, that is still on the hand.  This move  flushes energy into the ankles and feet, aiding regeneration.  All basketball players should be doing this while watching movies!

If Kobe Bryant is looking for a Jin Shin Jyutsu® practitioner to come and work on him, gently holding pairs of points, and giving him great pain relief, relaxation, and speeded-up healing, he can look at the JSJ Locator to find someone in his area (http://jsjinc.net/locator.php ).  And after he gets out of the hospital, he can take a Jin Shin Self-Help class in any of a number of locations around the world.

We look forward to seeing Kobe Bryant back on the court, in surprisingly short time, back fulfilling his passion!

On Saturday, November 2d, my office in Phoenix is giving a Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help Part 1 class from 9 am to 1:30 pm. Self-help Part 2 will be on Saturday, November 9th.  To register, or for details, email kebba@kebba.com, or call 480-250-1177.

Stress, peace within

Today’s UpBeat Living theme is how light our hearts can stay, regardless of what is happening.  We can have deadlines, noisy roommates, lost objects, and a meal overdue, but still stay in a light and pleasant mode.  We have choices as to what we let “bother” us.  If we are determined to feel good and feel happy, when we are solidly centered in our Peace Within, it is hard for any stress to “bother” us.  To illustrate this today, we share a story, author unknown, captured long ago from the great Internet Library of Circulating Stories.  Enjoy, and be light!

This is about an 88-year-old Christian Grandma’s driving experience.  Grandma writes:

Dear Grand-daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a ‘Honk if you love Jesus’ bumper sticker .  I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting. So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.  Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience followed!

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn’t notice that the light had changed.   It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn’t honked, I’d never have noticed.  I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, ‘For the love of God!’ ‘Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!’ What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

Then everyone started honking!  I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those
loving people.  I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!  There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach.

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.  I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.  Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window
and gave him the good luck sign right back.  My grandson burst out laughing. Why, even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.  I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.  So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!

Will write again soon,

Love, Grandma

Stress, boredom, the life you want, enjoying life

If you are even thinking about boredom, you’re bored.  Do these words resonate for you:  listless, dull, unmotivated?  Yup, you’re bored.  But wait!

Let’s sort this out a little. Is this a common feeling for you?  Do you need change?  What are you really experiencing?  Do you feel bored on the job, bored at home, or only bored when you’re with certain friends?  Then that’s Life’s way of telling you that you need change, in your job or at home.  Or you need new friends.

Boredom can actually be a physical malaise. So get your journal out, or your iPad, and start making lists.  Try answering these questions about physical stressors:

  1. Am I tired?
  2. Are my clothes too tight?
  3. Am I frustrated about some large thing, like needing to get a project done, and it seems to go on forever?
  4. Do I need a snack/beverage/meal?
  5. Is the air polluted today, or is the weather changing?
  6. Do I have a comfortable chair or couch on which to relax?  Do I need to get one?
  7. Have I exercised 20 minutes or more today?

Boredom can be Flat Brain Syndrome, either from working too much or being under-challenged.  In either case, a novelty break will do wonders for you.  Go for a scenic drive.  Go to a movie and then walk around the mall.  Visit the zoo or hike the Botanical Garden; take pictures of tiny things and of panoramas.  Three hours of change will do wonders for your brain and your attitude.

If you only have a half-hour to work on your boredom, try just taking a hot shower and styling your hair a fresh way.

Boredom is a sure signal that you need something.  Or several somethings.  Consult with yourself and bring help to your inner Bored Person.  Soon your mood, your energy, and your interest in life will be back.  You’ll thank yourself later!  And please comment on how you have conquered your boredom.

UpBeat Living: Shhhhh! It’s a Secret!

Gossip, secrets, confidentiality

In college days, I was aware that a transvestite acquaintance of mine had much to hide.  He hid from his parents his ability to groom as a woman and be completely convincing.  He hid from two West Point cadets that he was actually a man.  He hid from everyone I knew that his real name was “Jack”.  I hadn’t really thought of him in terms of his secrets, until I overheard him quip one day, “If you want something kept secret, tell no one but yourself!”  I have thought of that rule many times, closing my mouth when it was tempted to open and spill something that was confidential.

When I was an engineering manager, it was clear that no good could come from passing along personal information, even if the source didn’t say “[I]t’s a secret”.  Many factoids are simply no one else’s business, and factoids have a habit of changing when repeated.  Motivations get attributed to factoids they didn’t belong to.  A person going to an appointment became a person with a medical problem, and people guessed what the medical problem was, then shared that as a “fact”.  A surmise became “I’ll bet this…”, then became a fact, then became a whole set of facts.  Maybe the person was really going for an eye checkup, to get updated glasses, and the office had built the appointment into cancer.  At a brunch with 20 friends one day, a male friend surged up to me and asked, in a joyful, knowing tone, “[D]o you have something you want to tell us????”  After I said “no”, he kept asking.  We went around and around until I discovered the issue.  I was wearing a loose tunic, and he had built that into a pregnancy!  Everyone at his table at the brunch thought I was pregnant!  It was hard to undo that “secret”.

When I left engineering for holistic pain management, I volunteered at a center for AIDS patients.  My convictions about confidentiality became stronger.  At that time, a rumor that someone had AIDS could ruin their career.  Secrets that get loose can be very damaging, even if true.

Possibly the fuzziest negative about telling secrets is that there is now someone else thinking about it and processing about it; the secret will come back to you.  You have a touchy problem with an employee or volunteer or group member?  Journal it out, pray, discuss it with your sister several time zones away.  But do not create a local confidante—later they will bring it up and earnestly try to sell you a solution.  Since the issue was both tender and confidential to start with, it’s now even more tender (OUCH!) when your kind confidante brings it up and says they know just what you should do, and they ask for an update.  You will have to again violate confidentiality to share any update with them.

So here’s the bottom-line secret about secrets:  Save yourself a lot of trouble and don’t be in overshare:  Shhhh!  It’s a secret!
