Stress, Upbeat Living, Kebba Buckley Button, take a break, a real day off, DHEA

Welcome (back) to the new version of my long-running blog about being as healthy and happy as you can be, enjoying life as much as you can!  I started blogging in 2009, when social media was young.  I took a class on Facebook, Twitter, and blogging, and it was a mind-blower.  At first, I was spending 20 hours a week, learning and practicing my new skills.  I learned photo selection and manipulation, and how to get those pesky titles, subtitles, and captions in all the right places.  Now I’m fast at creating what I want.

I’m using the Ultimate Blog Challenge this month (look for the group of that name on Facebook)– one article per day– to motivate myself to get back in the driver’s/writer’s seat.  There was a lot of family business the last several years, and I just couldn’t keep up my weekly articles and newsletters.  For a couple of years, I did write monthly articles for an authors’ blog.  If you’re interested in seeing those, I will be making the collection available as a pdf ebook.  Now, a shift in family needs is allowing me to spend more time on what I’m called to do: consulting, healing, and writing.  During the last few years, I did continue teaching and speaking.  I finished two full-color browsing books:  Inspirations for Peace Within and Sacred Meditation.  My next planned book will likely be on stress and burnout.  Stay tuned!

Some people wonder how I got into the field of natural medicine.  While I don’t believe in dwelling on the negative, I will share my story briefly here.  In my twenties, I was a serious, focused workaholic engineering manager.  I published mightily; I had quite a publications list.  One night I realized the large knuckles of my hands were burning badly.  I dismissed it, since my mother had first experienced mild arthritis around the same age.  Mom had never done anything about her arthritis, other than take anti-inflammatories and supplements.  I look a lot like Mom and have had much the same metabolism.  So I thought, no biggie.  I have what she had.

Wrong!  Within a year, I was burning from head to toe, and aspirin wouldn’t touch it.  There was a terrible stiffness with the burning.  On the worst day, it took me 2 hours to turn over to reach a telephone, to call in sick.  I thought I might have about a dozen years before I would be in a wheelchair.  There would be no marriage, family, or children.  I took up yoga and jogging.  I worked and experimented and prayed. I continued my career in hydrology and engineering.

In the eighth year of my research and efforts, a miracle was revealed: I had beaten it!!  I was at a party, when a friend started talking about Her Arthritis like it was her lover.  After being introduced to her new diagnosis, she bought a new car for it.  We had been going on group campouts.  She bought all new camping equipment for her companion-disease.  She bought new furniture for her companion-disease.  I listened as generously as I could.  Finally, I heard myself say, “well, when I had horrible crippling arthritis… I did (these things to beat it)…”  I was so shocked to hear myself speak of the horrible burning condition in the past tense, that I can’t tell you what the friend replied.  Or even what my sharings were.  I do remember her frowning at me.  We were both struggling to be polite.

Within a couple of years, I was so involved in natural- and energy medicine, and natural pain solutions, that I was bored with hydrology and engineering.  I gave notice and left the engineering firm I was working for. I opened my own holistic healing practice and have now been at it for over 30 years.  I have helped many, many people with energy healing, dietary adjustments, intuitive guidance, positive languaging, relationship strategies, and understanding the “why” of their physical discomforts.

I invite you to join me on this journey of seeking happiness, health, and a love of life!

Today is World Day of Peace, appointed by the United Nations as an annual day of peace and ceasefire.  Even the Taliban has been cooperating with taking a day off from war, allowing humanitarian aid to flow into strife-torn areas.  For more on activities for this annual day, use your search bar to learn more about Jeremy Gilley, the founder and probably Chief Optimist of the movement, “Peace One Day”.  Many of us believe we can have peace in our time.  Today, in Phoenix, Arizona, about 250 people will gather at 6 pm, at the Franciscan Renewal Center, dressed in purple.  We will form the word, “MERCY”.  Like the word HOPE, in the photo above, our stubborn hearts believe that we are moving forward and helping to build the peace we wish to see.

Our beautiful planet and its 7 billion human tenants need peace now.  The other beings on the Planet need peace now.  The plant systems and climate systems on this extraordinary world need peace now.  There has been much upheaval lately, in climatic and human affairs.

We are at choice as to how we can help this peace come about.  We need to be good global citizens, work for social justice, develop our individual Peace Within, and pray often.  Number one is to keep ourselves grounded in our Peace Within, so we can keep up with the other needs.  Even prayer must come from a peaceful, hopeful, trusting heart.

With so many people so stressed out today, and with so many social issues hurting large numbers, it is crucial to stay as grounded and clear as you can, even joyful and grateful.  This is a major way you can help the Planet, and it’s a skill set.  Study positive ideas and books (such as Peace Within: Your Peaceful Inner Core), explore your faith, and keep returning to positive languaging and beliefs.  Learn to meditate, taking classes and increasing your personal peace-maintaining skills.  The more Peace Within you cultivate, the better your relationships will be, and the better able you will be to do what you can to help bring forth peace in our time.   Gandhi said,

If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.

For more on what you can do to bring about world peace, read the article Peace In Our Time: 3 Ways You Can Help ( http://wp.me/pyEwf-6C ) .  Then work on your Peace Within, and choose some other simple ways to help the World.  You can be a part of building the world your children will inherit.  And that’s Upbeat Living!

Is there something in your body or your life that you wish were healed?  The spectrum of positive outcomes is limitless.  Understandings and many other tools can lead us to comfort, peace, release, and relief.

I like to focus on the positive, the Upbeat Livingsm, the joy– all the Highest and Best.  Not the past or the pain.  However, recently, I was in a healing ministry group gathering, and some were sharing stories of healings they had seen and experienced.  We discussed dimensions of healing: what actually makes it happen?  That day, I was moved to share with this loving group my most dramatic healing story: mine. Here it is.

When I was 26, one evening, I began to feel cranky.  I thought “[H]ow odd!  What’s going on?”  My body replied that the large joints of my hands were burning.  I thought, “[N]o problem.  Mom has had mild arthritis since my age.  I’ll take aspirin, like she does.”  Oh no!  Within a year, I was burning from head to toe.  And there was a terrible stiffness with the pain.  Over a few months, my joints began to enlarge and I could hardly use my hands.  I knew I would be needing a wheelchair by my mid-thirties, and there would be no marriage or children.  As an engineering manager, I went at potential solutions like the engineer of a high-speed train.  I learned the latest on nutrition, controlled my diet, and took up oriental energy healing, primarily Jin Shin Jyutsu.  I learned there are many approaches other than medication, to beat a painful condition.

When I was 33, I was at a party, and an acquaintance was talking about her arthritis as though she had married it.  She was obsessed with it, in love with it.  But that’s another column.  I heard myself say to her, “[W]ell, when I had horrible crippling arthritis, I found several things really helped…”  From there, I have no memory of what I shared with her, because I was so shocked to hear myself speak of my hellish, life-killing condition in the past tense.  It had finished leaving sometime over the previous few months!  I learned that just because you have a condition doesn’t mean it has to be progressive.  Just because you have a diagnosis doesn’t mean you have to keep it.  Later, as my joints actually healed and shrank, I learned that just because you have organic body damage, it doesn’t mean it can’t reverse.  These were huge revelations to me.  Now, at 63, most days, I have no pain of any kind whatsoever.  People take me for 20 years younger.

The opportunity to experience that crippling condition was a transformative gift in my life.  I became so fascinated with natural pain solutions and healing possibilities that I left engineering and morphed into an energy- and spiritual healer.  I became an ordained minister, a spiritual teacher and an award-winning author.  The more I helped people heal, the more I saw the underlying role of stress in almost all conditions. I began teaching people to dissolve their stress and actually trade in stress for energy and wellness.  Now, I frequently teach stress management, energizing techniques, and meditation.

Roman statesman Lucius Seneca said,

The wish for healing has always been half of health.

Do you want healing?  Then meditate on these top 7 Laws of Healing:

  1. There are many approaches other than medication, to beat horrible pain and other health conditions.
  2. Stress is a major factor to conquer, for most to get the healing they seek.
  3. Just because you have a diagnosis doesn’t mean you have to keep it.
  4. Just because you have a diagnosis doesn’t mean it gets to rule your life.
  5. Just because you have a condition doesn’t mean it has to be progressive.
  6. Just because there was never a medical protocol before doesn’t mean there won’t be one soon, if you like medical protocols.
  7. Just because you’re not cured doesn’t mean you can’t be healed.

After decades of my healer path, I now believe literally all things are possible.  I experience the unreasonable and the miraculous every day.  May I assist you in your healing journey?  Your commitment to your own healing means you are stepping into Upbeat Living.

Stress, healing, curing, Upbeat Living

Is there something in your body or your life that you wish were healed?  The spectrum of positive outcomes is limitless.  Understandings and many other tools can lead us to comfort, peace, release, and relief.

Last year, I went to my first meeting of a healing ministry at my church.  The church is a large Episcopal Church in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The lay healing ministers shared stories of healings they had experienced, and we discussed dimensions of healing.

I am deeply committed  to focusing on the positive, the Upbeat Living, the joy– all the Highest and Best.  Not the past or the pain.  However, that day I was moved to share with this loving group my most dramatic healing story: mine. Here it is.

When I was 26, one evening, I began to feel cranky.  I thought “[H]ow odd!  What’s going on?”  My body replied that the large joints of my hands were burning  But I thought, “[N]o problem.  Mom has had mild arthritis since my age.  I’ll take aspirin, like she does.”  Oh no!  Within a year, I had a strong burning sensation from head to toe.  And there was a terrible stiffness with the pain; I could only walk slowly.  Over a few months, my joints began to enlarge and I could hardly use my hands.  In the cafeteria at work, I had to carry my lunch tray on my forearms, then hit it with my hip to slide it down my arms onto the lunch table.  On my worst day, it took me 2 hours to be able to turn over, reach the phone, call in to work, and finally sit up in bed.

The wish for healing has always been half of health.

                                        ~ Lucius Annaeus Seneca

I was terrified at the idea that, if this kept progressing so fast, I would be needing a wheelchair by my mid-thirties.  As an engineering manager, I made this a top-priority vital project. Already a dancer, meditator, and yoga practitioner, I learned the latest on nutrition and supplements, controlled my diet, and took up oriental energy healing, primarily Jin Shin Jyutsu.  I learned ChiKung (Chinese yoga).  I learned to muscle-test for supplements and other helps.  I learned there are many approaches other than medication, to beat a painful condition.

When I was 33, I was at a party, and someone was talking about her arthritis as though she had married it.  She was obsessed with it, in love with it.  But that’s another column.  I heard myself say to her, “[W]ell, when I had horrible crippling arthritis, I found several things really helped…”  From there, I have no memory of what I shared with her, because I was so shocked to hear myself speak of my hellish condition in the past tense.  It had finished leaving sometime over the previous few months!  I learned that just because you have a condition doesn’t mean it has to be progressive. I now see the opportunity to experience that crippling condition as a transformative gift in my life.  I became so fascinated with natural pain solutions and healing possibilities that I left engineering and morphed into an energy- and spiritual healer.  I began giving stress management trainings.  I became an ordained minister, a spiritual teacher and an award-winning author.

In the 1980’s, the AIDS epidemic hit Phoenix.  I volunteered at the Malta Center, a community healing organization funded by a Catholic charity.  We served HIV/AIDS patients and their loved ones, without regard to their income.

I learned that I had friends who had been HIV-positive for 10 years, with no symptoms at all, even fatigue.  I learned that some AIDS patients got very close to the Divine in their last weeks.  I learned that some seemed to go into a state of Grace in their last weeks, in complete harmony with Life, the Universe, and God. Some said their lives were healed, and then they passed on.  They weren’t cured, but they were healed.  Today, the Clinton Initiative and other organizations stream pharmaceutical protocols to many countries, and HIV is not the frightening specter it once was.

Today, I am the award-winning author of 3 books and hundreds of articles.  I serve people with any level of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual distress.  I offer holistic consulting, energy transformations and oriental energy therapy, nutritional consulting, muscle testing, intuitive assistance, and many specific stress-conquering methods and meditation techniques.  Do you want healing?  Let’s remember:

  • There are many approaches other than medication, to beat horrible pain and other health conditions.
  • Just because you have a diagnosis doesn’t mean it gets to rule your life.
  • Just because you have a condition doesn’t mean it has to be progressive.
  • Just because there was never a medical protocol before doesn’t mean there won’t be one soon, if you like medical protocols.
  • Just because you’re not cured doesn’t mean you can’t be healed.  Or the reverse.

What body/mind/heart/spirit hurts do you have today?  Why wait to call and start your healing?  Living your life in positive power is truly Upbeat Living!
