Wakeup stress, daystarters

How can you best wake up?

Do you ever struggle to wake up and get going?  Are you just thinking of surviving the wakeup process, let alone thriving during the day?  My father said he never really woke up before about 10 am.  It was his metabolism, his internal clock. Here are some of the best tips I use to make sure I get going so I can make it a great day.  You may want to try one, or two of these daystarters, or all of them!

  1.  Wake up at 6 am or when your — um– solids move.  You’re working with the clock from Chinese medicine and will be more awake all day if you do this.
  2.  Make your alarm sound pleasant.  Waking up by smartphone?  You have many choices of tones.
  3.  If you feel tired or resistant, make a positive statement.  Try:  “We’re making it a great day!”  Or, if you are a Christian, try, “In Jesus’ name I pray, let’s make it a great day!”  Write your own declaration.
  4. Get an alarm light that glows more and more brightly over a half hour, prior to your alarm going off. The light will stimulate your brain and help your system get moving.
  5. Envision what a joy-filled, healthy, effective day you are stepping into.  Take 1 minute to do this.
  6. Eat the right breakfast, for you. Some people are just not hungry when they get up; they may want to eat when they do get hungry, or have a protein drink now.  How about an ounce of almonds or cashews, a piece of fruit, and some tea?  I always wake up ready for a big breakfast with lots of protein.  Experiment with the breakfast that fits your metabolism and keeps you going for at least two hours.
  7.  Drink the best breakfast beverage, for you.  Many of us love a cup or two of joe, and we feel really great after having it with breakfast.  But not all coffees are created equal, and many people feel best all morning after drinking tea, hot chocolate, lemon water, or a fruit smoothie.  Coffee is loaded with antioxidants, not just caffeine.  Green and black teas have other beneficial compounds.  There is so much research on this that we’ll have a separate article on coffee and tea soon.  The bottom line is:  what beverage works best for you, to feel your best at breakfast time, and two hours later?

Try incorporating these tips one by one, and notice how much better your days run.  And that’s you:  ever more Healthy Happy Loving Lifesm!  Are you in?

We can choose to be peaceful, to have Peace Within, and to cultivate CALM.  Hopefully, the lovely poster above helps you laugh about the fact that these are choices.  We are always at choice.  As yesterday was Bad Poetry Day, it follows that today must be Peace Poetry Day.  And while I have a whole book to help you find and solidify your Peace Within— curiously called Inspirations for Peace Within— today I’m sharing two exquisite peace poems.  The first is in French, which you will really enjoy, if you speak French:

And this, actually the more familiar English translation of the same poem:

May today there be peace within.

May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities

that are born of faith in yourself and others.

May you use the gifts that you have received,

and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content with yourself just the way you are.

Let this knowledge settle into your bones,

and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.

~ St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Go ahead– post that on a mirror where you will read it to yourself at least every morning.  In a week, tell me how your life has shifted.  And that would be you– ever more Healthy Happy Loving Lifesm!  Are you in?

In the last post, we were talking about the importance of finding and deepening your Peace Within. Sometimes we get deep hits of Peace Within from moments or places.  I shared these stories in my book, Inspirations for Peace Within.

Occasionally, we see a person who is clearly in a state of transcendent personal peace, and we somehow get a transfer effect, feeling more peaceful ourselves.  This happened to me years ago, on a stressful day of travel.  On returning from an engineering conference, I was dashing through the Pittsburgh airport, feeling tense, tired, and overworked, when I was absolutely riveted by a person going by.  She was a nun, wearing a traditional habit. She was walking peacefully through the terminal, wearing an etheric expression of utter happy calm.  Her slight smile reminded me of the ageless magnetism of Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.  I stopped completely.  I had to stare as she passed.  Her unreasonable peace and calm, in a noisy and busy environment, translated profoundly into my body, mind, and soul.  I was changed by her.  Now, years later, every time I think of that nun, my mind and body re-set, and I feel tension and stress leave me.  I go directly to peace within.

Some place-related experiences can give us a profound shift into peace within.  A few years ago, I was in a small town in Colorado for Christmas.  Framed by a stunning view of the Rockies, many towering, majestic pine trees surrounded our historic hotel.  Late Christmas Eve, fresh snow began to fall.  Having much on my mind, I bundled up to go walk among the dancing flakes.  Stepping out into the moonlight, I could feel the tension start to leave my muscles.  I prayed for clarity and peace, and for any guidance I might need for the season and the upcoming year.  I had not been out in the night air for more than ten minutes before my cares and worries of the last year began to seem completely insignificant.  Soon, I couldn’t even think what my issues had been.  Now walking in an inch of new snow, I looked up through the white-laden tree branches and deeply inhaled the sweet winter air.  I felt surrounded by and filled with the Peace That Passes All Understanding.  I felt the Divine Presence.  I experienced a deeper level of peace within than I had felt in many years.  I walked on.  When I finally stepped back into the hotel, I realized I had been transformed.  Years later, still, just recalling that walk vividly brings back the experience and the utter serenity.  Perhaps you have had related experiences.

Take note of moments when you experience unplanned waves of peace.  Journal out what you notice, how it affects you, and perhaps how wonderful you feel.  The more you notice these waves of Peace Within, the more you will be able to keep that feeling.  And that’s you, being more and more Healthy Happy and Loving Lifesm!

Stress, Upbeat Living, Kebba Buckley Button, take a break, a real day off, DHEA

Welcome (back) to the new version of my long-running blog about being as healthy and happy as you can be, enjoying life as much as you can!  I started blogging in 2009, when social media was young.  I took a class on Facebook, Twitter, and blogging, and it was a mind-blower.  At first, I was spending 20 hours a week, learning and practicing my new skills.  I learned photo selection and manipulation, and how to get those pesky titles, subtitles, and captions in all the right places.  Now I’m fast at creating what I want.

I’m using the Ultimate Blog Challenge this month (look for the group of that name on Facebook)– one article per day– to motivate myself to get back in the driver’s/writer’s seat.  There was a lot of family business the last several years, and I just couldn’t keep up my weekly articles and newsletters.  For a couple of years, I did write monthly articles for an authors’ blog.  If you’re interested in seeing those, I will be making the collection available as a pdf ebook.  Now, a shift in family needs is allowing me to spend more time on what I’m called to do: consulting, healing, and writing.  During the last few years, I did continue teaching and speaking.  I finished two full-color browsing books:  Inspirations for Peace Within and Sacred Meditation.  My next planned book will likely be on stress and burnout.  Stay tuned!

Some people wonder how I got into the field of natural medicine.  While I don’t believe in dwelling on the negative, I will share my story briefly here.  In my twenties, I was a serious, focused workaholic engineering manager.  I published mightily; I had quite a publications list.  One night I realized the large knuckles of my hands were burning badly.  I dismissed it, since my mother had first experienced mild arthritis around the same age.  Mom had never done anything about her arthritis, other than take anti-inflammatories and supplements.  I look a lot like Mom and have had much the same metabolism.  So I thought, no biggie.  I have what she had.

Wrong!  Within a year, I was burning from head to toe, and aspirin wouldn’t touch it.  There was a terrible stiffness with the burning.  On the worst day, it took me 2 hours to turn over to reach a telephone, to call in sick.  I thought I might have about a dozen years before I would be in a wheelchair.  There would be no marriage, family, or children.  I took up yoga and jogging.  I worked and experimented and prayed. I continued my career in hydrology and engineering.

In the eighth year of my research and efforts, a miracle was revealed: I had beaten it!!  I was at a party, when a friend started talking about Her Arthritis like it was her lover.  After being introduced to her new diagnosis, she bought a new car for it.  We had been going on group campouts.  She bought all new camping equipment for her companion-disease.  She bought new furniture for her companion-disease.  I listened as generously as I could.  Finally, I heard myself say, “well, when I had horrible crippling arthritis… I did (these things to beat it)…”  I was so shocked to hear myself speak of the horrible burning condition in the past tense, that I can’t tell you what the friend replied.  Or even what my sharings were.  I do remember her frowning at me.  We were both struggling to be polite.

Within a couple of years, I was so involved in natural- and energy medicine, and natural pain solutions, that I was bored with hydrology and engineering.  I gave notice and left the engineering firm I was working for. I opened my own holistic healing practice and have now been at it for over 30 years.  I have helped many, many people with energy healing, dietary adjustments, intuitive guidance, positive languaging, relationship strategies, and understanding the “why” of their physical discomforts.

I invite you to join me on this journey of seeking happiness, health, and a love of life!

Upbeat Living:  Happy World Day of Peace!

Today is World Day of Peace, appointed by the United Nations as an annual day of peace and ceasefire.  Even the Taliban has been cooperating with taking a day off from war, allowing humanitarian aid to flow into strife-torn areas.  For more on activities for this annual day, use your search bar to learn more about Jeremy Gilley, the founder and probably Chief Optimist of the movement, “Peace One Day”.  Many of us believe we can have peace in our time.  Today, in Phoenix, Arizona, about 250 people will gather at 6 pm, at the Franciscan Renewal Center, dressed in purple.  We will form the word, “MERCY”.  Like the word HOPE, in the photo above, our stubborn hearts believe that we are moving forward and helping to build the peace we wish to see.

Our beautiful planet and its 7 billion human tenants need peace now.  The other beings on the Planet need peace now.  The plant systems and climate systems on this extraordinary world need peace now.  There has been much upheaval lately, in climatic and human affairs.

We are at choice as to how we can help this peace come about.  We need to be good global citizens, work for social justice, develop our individual Peace Within, and pray often.  Number one is to keep ourselves grounded in our Peace Within, so we can keep up with the other needs.  Even prayer must come from a peaceful, hopeful, trusting heart.

With so many people so stressed out today, and with so many social issues hurting large numbers, it is crucial to stay as grounded and clear as you can, even joyful and grateful.  This is a major way you can help the Planet, and it’s a skill set.  Study positive ideas and books (such as Peace Within: Your Peaceful Inner Core), explore your faith, and keep returning to positive languaging and beliefs.  Learn to meditate, taking classes and increasing your personal peace-maintaining skills.  The more Peace Within you cultivate, the better your relationships will be, and the better able you will be to do what you can to help bring forth peace in our time.   Gandhi said,

If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.

For more on what you can do to bring about world peace, read the article Peace In Our Time: 3 Ways You Can Help ( http://wp.me/pyEwf-6C ) .  Then work on your Peace Within, and choose some other simple ways to help the World.  You can be a part of building the world your children will inherit.  And that’s Upbeat Living!

Upbeat Living:  8 Easy Steps to Clear the Energy of Your Home or Office

Stress, energy, clearing the energy of your space, Upbeat Living, Kebba Buckley Button

In Upbeat Livingsm, we want our lifestyle to be energized and joyful.  To feel our best, we should regularly check on and tune up the energy of our spaces.  So today’s topic is the energy of your home or office.  By now, you’ve probably heard of the idea of Feng Shui, the art of placing objects in your home, office, or other space, to optimize the energy in the space and in your life.  Maybe you’ve even dabbled in adding certain colors or objects to your space.  If so, you already believe in subtle energy fields, the circulating energy patterns that you can’t see.

But you don’t need to understand the complex details of the discipline of Feng Shui, to clear or otherwise adjust your home or office energy.  Especially if you are feeling stuck in any way, there are quick and simple things you can do to raise the energy, the feeling, of your space. At this writing, we are at the end of Summer and almost at the beginning of Fall.  This is a natural time of transition and evaluation. The other natural time of home energy transition is in the Spring, when people launch into Spring cleaning.  That is at time when people in cold areas open their doors and windows for the first time in months.  They “air out” their homes, and they clean and freshen all the surfaces and contents.  Perhaps they take a fresh look at what they own and what they would like to donate or replace.  Perhaps they add some bright seasonal décor. In hot areas like Phoenix, this naturally happens at the end of Summer.

When outside temperatures finally descend to below 80 degrees, people may suddenly open their front doors and find the air is cooler outside than inside—a pleasant, refreshing shock.  At that point, the home or office energy has been stale for a half year, and it’s time for a re-set.  Junk energy has been accumulating all during the closed-window season.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said,

Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine.

Shadow energy builds up when we don’t air out or tune up our space.  Now that the weather is mild, all the energy of stress, illness, fatigue, and discouragement can be aired out and cleansed away.  This is simple. It can take about 10 minutes of your time, plus an hour to continue letting the space air out!  Just follow these 8 easy steps.

  1. Set your intention to clear and lighten up the energy of your space.
  2. Open all the doors and windows. Leave the screen doors closed.
  3. Light an incense stick or sage bundle. You’ll carry it around over a pan that catches the ash.  Any incense will do, coupled with your intention.  My favorite is Nag Champa.
  4. Declare your intention and/or say a prayer. Try this traditional one, or write your own: “Visit, we beseech Thee, O Lord, this dwelling, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy.  Let Thy holy Angels dwell herein, to preserve us in peace. And let Thy blessing be upon us forever.  Through Christ our Lord, Amen.”
  5. Go around your space repeating phrases about release, such as: “I bless and release all tired, ill, old, or stale energy.  I bless and release all pain, all emotional sludge, all discouragement, all stuck/ness, all unclarity, all brain fog, all distraction, and all outdated ideas of life and who I should be”.  Picture stale energy leaving through the open windows and doors.
  6. Go around again, still holding the pan with burning incense or sage, and repeat phrases like this: “I refill this space with new, fresh, upbeat, encouraged, optimistic, can-do energy.  I declare this to be a space filled with radiance and wellness, vitality, fresh ideas, easy concentration, right action, inspiration, and best relationships.  I declare that this space draws the ideal friends, (clients, if applicable,) loved ones, energy, and income.  This is a place of peace, joy, and balance!”
  7. Thank God/the Universe/Jesus/the Angels. According to your belief system, express great gratitude that these things are so.
  8. Give the space an hour to air out, or more if climate and schedule permit.

Now simply repeat as desired.  You’ll notice the space feels lighter, and everything you do is easier.  And that’s Upbeat  Living!

Anger Stress: When Anger Is Really Something Else

There are three main types of anger stress:  when you are burning with your own anger, when someone else is angry with you or dumping their anger on you, and when someone is actually hurt, but they seem to be angry.  In all these cases, it’s important to touch in with your Peace Within and stay grounded there.

A client called recently, ranting, to sound off about a tenant.  My client, “Jane”, has had an apparently wonderful woman, “Polly”, renting a condo from her for a few months.  Polly has been warm, courteous, and articulate, since they first met.  Jane had thought they would be neighbors for a long time.  She also thought they were becoming friends. Jane had even been referring work to Polly for her virtual assistant business. However, this morning, a night-owl neighbor called to ask if Jane knew Polly had moved out in the middle of the night.  WHAT?  The neighbor said Polly had backed a U-Haul up to the unit and moved out a all her belongings, between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.  It flew through Jane’s mind that yesterday was the first of the month, and maybe this was Polly’s way of giving notice, of saying she did not intend to pay this month’s rent.

Heart sinking and ready to cry, Jane called Polly. First, Jane simply asked if she could pick up the rent today.  She was thinking, “[S]o you LIED to me?  So you’re a thief? So when you overcharged that client I referred to you, that was you being a con?   If you had given notice, I could have another tenant in that beautiful condo already!”  If Jane had said to Polly what she was thinking, she would have sounded very angry.  Polly launched into a long speech about her business not doing well and that basically, she had vacated.  She made no apology.  Jane bit her tongue and just listened.  Finally, she told Polly that if Polly had been open with her earlier, Jane could have had a replacement tenant ready to move in.  The condo is lovely and in a gorgeous, quiet neighborhood.

By this point in the conversation, Jane told me, her chest was tight and her heart literally hurt.  She was praying for direction.  Her head was beginning to throb and her eyes stung.  She quietly negotiated as best she could with Polly; Jane will be filing in court if Polly doesn’t pay this month’s rent shortly.  Jane kept her cool, was courteous with Polly, and got a promise from Polly to pay the current month’s rent “soon”.  At first, Jane wanted to loudly say nasty things to Polly.  She wanted to strike out at Polly.  That would have looked and sounded like anger.  But was she angry?

stress, anger, disappointment, blame, Kebba Buckley Button

Actually, on sorting through her thoughts and feelings, Jane realized she was mainly surprised and hurt.  She felt betrayed.  She was beginning to see Polly as hardly an honest person.  She felt like she had been hit by something, and she said she just wanted to hit back!  So what could she do with those feelings?

In situations with anger stress, Step One is to keep your cool, getting in touch with your Peace Within and strength, calming yourself deeply.  Then be as effective as you can in negotiating with the other person.  Jane did this to an extent, but she will be practicing the deep calming technique more, in case of future surprises.  Step Two in difficult emotional situations is to deal privately with your feelings, journaling or talking it out for clarity, getting some exercise and drinking water, to dispel the physical symptoms of distress.  Or, of course, you can call a clergy person or counseling professional to talk it out with.  Step Three is to integrate what happened, letting your mind/spirit dimension settle the details and determine, in prayer or meditation, any further actions to be taken.  If you are not a person of faith, journaling and counseling may be your strongest tools.  Perhaps the person with whom you have had conflict is actually not a good person for you and your life?  Step Four is to take that action or say those things you have decided on.  And, at every step, if you are a person of faith, pray, for discernment and for the highest and best resolution.  St. Paul said (1 Thessalonians 5:17), “Pray without ceasing.”  So pray as often as you are moved to.  Or write in your journal and talk to your counselor.  Whatever you do, do NOT carry the heat of your feelings into the conversation with the other person.

When anger isn’t anger, be honest with yourself, and effective with others.  Take a little time to cool off and clear your mind.  If you are a spiritual person, take time to prayerfully heal.  After all, it’s your life.  And now you’re in Upbeat Living!

Fear Stress vs. Joy in the Storm

Stress, fear stress, Upbeat Living, Kebba Buckley Button, joy

Almost 5 years ago, I wrote a column called, “Joy in the Storm”.  I argued that, no matter what is going on around you, it is crucial not to give in to a bad attitude or to give up your positive vision.   At the time, a lot of people in the US were depressed and anxious.  I wrote, “As a nation, we are again at a crux.  Gas prices are fairly high, the stock market has hit record lows, foreclosures are still on the rise, and more jobs are being cut.  Hurricanes crippled some areas of our country.  Our national leaders are arguing over more bailouts for the financial and automotive industries.  They still debate what to do next with spending to fight terrorism.  Many are tense and worried, about their own income and investments, as well as about the state of the country.  Many are in outright fear.  In a sense, we are in an emotional storm system.”

Does all that sound familiar?  Yet we survived.  We restructured the mortgage industry and much of Wall Street.  We drilled for oil within the US and brought gasoline prices to half what they were 5 years ago.  The economy is not perfect but is much improved. Lively debates about running the country are taking place in all 50 states, as we consider what the best Presidential candidates are for our upcoming election.

On the dark side, we now face global terror threats and in-country mass shootings on scales we never imagined five years ago.   Millions have lost their homes in the Middle East and Africa.  The European Union, the US, and others are struggling to assist the refugees.  Global weather is shifting and we debate global warming.  Weather systems have brought massive storm destruction to Texas, Missouri, New Mexico, and others.  Floods have destroyed areas of California, as well as areas in the South.  We now deal with challenges that are on a new scale.  Some are asking if we are in the beginning of World War III.  Some ask if this is the Biblical Apocalypse.

But, as was true 5 years ago, this is the very time to work against our fear.  In our health, fear damages the immune system and causes exhaustion.  In relationships, fear makes us brittle, defensive, hesitant to move ahead, and sometimes, it makes us look and sound angry.  Many seem ready to snap.  And that may be exactly why we have so many shooting sprees.  On a national and international level, fear can cause a plummet in the stock markets or a run on the banks, either of which can be disastrous for financial systems.

The truth is that this is the very time to feed our positive feelings.  This is the ideal time to savor every convenience and blessing, being thankful for all the good in our lives.  The body chemistry of gratitude leads to a sense of satisfaction and joy, in essence washing away the biochemistry of fear.  Despite the negative idea storm around us, this is the ideal time to be in touch with the joy in our lives. It is the ideal time to get in touch with our Peace Within.

Goal planners and metaphysics practitioners say it is crucial to hold your intention and your vision of what you want.  Both say thinking negative thoughts leads to more negative occurrences, and holding positive, joyful visions leads to more positive results.  Jesus is quoted, in several books of the Bible, as saying that it is important to stay joyful to get the life results you want.  In John 16:33, Jesus says,

In the world, you have tribulation, but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.

Can you have joy in the storm?  Nurture your faith and your Peace Within.  Why not try?  Your life is worth it.  And that’s Upbeat Living!

This time, we’re brainstorming about gates, gateways, and energetics.  So, where is the most beautiful gate you’ve ever seen?  Was it modern or ancient?  What was it made of?  Was it the gate to a home, or a hotel entry gate?  Was it a vintage City entry gate?  What purposes did it serve?  How did you feel as you gazed at that gate?   Gates are used mainly for security, to impress, or to commemorate something.  They are also used as entryways, to welcome guests.

The most impressive gate I have ever seen is the Stargate from the movie and TV show of the same name.  An ornate circle of “nahquadah” perhaps 20 feet across, the Stargate allows the good guys to travel out or arrive, transferring quickly between planets.  People jump into its circumference, and they are conveyed instantly.   Now consider the gate to your yard.  It allows you ingress and egress for people and packages, and it keeps out some people and dogs you might not want straying into your yard.  In Feng Shui, your gate has energetics, which vary by its placement and appearance.  It is important to keep your gate in good repair, and to keep it lovely, if possible.  Now look at the next two pictures.      Stress, LifeGates, mental gates, Kebba Buckley Button

Both show the same gate, first in pieces, and then after repairs.  Which gate would you rather have?  Which is more pleasing?  Which one has better energy?  Obviously, the “after” gate is more pleasing and has better energy.  That one will help energize your yard.  It will draw in great energy, perhaps vitality, great relationships, and prosperity.

If you have been drawing in distractions, wrong turns, repeated illnesses, or untrustworthy associates, you have LifeGatesm Stress.   So, what about your mental gateways?  How effectively do they protect your Peace Within?  What are your mental gateways allowing in?  Are they welcoming vitality, great relationships, joy, and prosperity?  Over time, you have learned to filter negative thoughts and not allow negative people to disturb your mental/emotional/spiritual peace. No doubt you are always learning better how to do this.

So on the flip side, what are you attracting?  Would you like to learn a simple exercise to attract more?   Today, you can design your LifeGatesm and install it in your mind.  Ready?  Imagine a beautiful gate, perhaps surrounded by lush plantings, or attached to a lovely wall made of stone.  Make your gate of any material you like.  Look in magazines, in Google Images, and in photo calendars for ideas.  You can always adjust your gate later, in materials, height, width, thickness and color(s).  When you have settled on your initial LifeGatesm, sit quietly for a few minutes, twice per day, and picture the energies you want flowing into your life through your gateway.  Picture vitality entering.  Picture your vitality arriving, then your prosperity, then any other qualities or energies you would like to have flowing in.  Be in touch with your gratitude, which will strongly support the good conditions flowing in…and staying.

Call up the mental image of your LifeGatesm often, see it in vivid detail, and see the flow you want coming in through it.  See the gate shut to negativity and takers.   It’s your LifeGatesm.  You are in charge.  Maintain all the gates of your life for the Highest and Best.  What will give you the best energy and the most of the life you want?  That will center you in Upbeat Livingsm. Now it’s up to you.

It’s the dread Deadline Stress again!  With your deadline looming, you’re sitting at your computer or iPad or with your yellow pad, and the words aren’t coming.  You know your topic and everything about the piece.  But the moments are slipping away, and still the words aren’t getting into the article.  You’re really stuck!

Most advice about writers’ block is all about using your thoughts to control your thoughts. But that won’t work when your brain is stuck, and you can’t grasp your thoughts in order to control your thoughts!  Your brain is depleted right now.

So don’t use your mind!  Use these physical brain boosts to get yourself going.  Here are three of my favorites:

  • The Shoulder Shift. Roll your shoulders up and forward, then around, slowly, stretching, for one minute.  Watch the clock.  No cheating.  Now roll the shoulders up and back and around, slowly, stretching, for one minute.  Notice the warming in your ankles and feet.  You have now opened up the circulation to the whole body, and you’ll feel it in the brain in one minute.  Notice a warming sensation flowing up the back of your neck.  This is energy, and it’s recharging your energy-starved brain.  You may notice your mood changing already, with positive emotions rising.  Cool, huh?
  • The Chocolate Churnover. Earlier, were you craving chocolate?  Now is a great time to munch an ounce of dark chocolate to help your brain. The antioxidants and theobromine in the chocolate will lift your energy and metabolism.  Stimulating the tongue and mouth, by eating, lifts the energy of both the Fire- and Earth Meridians.  The bitter flavor in the chocolate stimulates the Fire Meridian, and the sweetness energizes the Earth Meridian.  If you heat your chocolate in almond- or dairy milk, the warm drink will raise the energy of the entire digestive system, which stimulates brain function, increasing clarity.  Also, the potassium in either form of milk will assist brain optimization.  Now you have churned your whole energy system, and it is pumping in support of you.
  • The Latte Lift. If you love lattes, try this trick first.  Get your favorite latte and set a timer for 20 minutes.  Drink your delicious liquid, and lie down or relax in your recliner for those 20 minutes. You get a break, and as you’re rising again, the antioxidants and caffeine (or in tea lattes, L-Theanine, theobromine, and theophylline) are just hitting your  blood-brain barrier.  Now you’re rested and refreshed, yet your blood, oxygen, and energy are flowing well.

Now, your brain has what it needs, and your words will be flowing. You no longer have to dread Deadline Stress!  Play around with these brain boosting techniques and make them part of your regular writing practice.  You never need to be stuck again.  Now you’ll be beating all those deadlines and soaring as the writer you are meant to be.
