In my holistic healing practice, I often hear people say they cannot concentrate. They cannot quiet “the monkey mind”– chatter chatter chatter! But what if you could say one word that would magically bring your thoughts to one point and allow you to concentrate? Sometimes, the briefest communication is the most effective. I recommend this One Word Chantsm, repeated many times if necessary: FOCUS. You are kindly giving direction to your inner mind. Just try it. You’ll be amazed.
Clients sometimes tell me they are so wound up that they are unable to let go, even when they are in a session, receiving energy therapy or a massage. They realize they are tight or even rigid, lying on the cushy, soft, luxurious therapy table, receiving from a favorite therapist. They realize they should be sinking into a mellow state, but they aren’t. In this situation, I recommend this one word chant, repeated frequently: RELAX. Sometimes a second One Word Chant compliments RELAX, and that is RECEIVE. Try alternating these. You must be somewhat relaxed, at least, to be open to receiving. So these two One Word Chants fit together well.

And you only go around once, at least this trip.Support yourself with a One Word Chantsm, to be more and more Healthy, Happy, and Loving Lifesm! It’s up to you!

My favorite one word is AMEN. But I often use the work RELAX when I feel myself getting tense. It does work!

Will, yes, simplifying is sometimes seen as unfashionable, but it’s the best way to get where we want to go, sometimes!

Wow! You’re right. They *do* work!! I just tried them, and could tell they were working very well. I also like saying these affirmations – “I am grounded,” “I am centered,” etc.

Jeanine, I am so glad you could feel them! These chants are self-direction, mantras openers for the brain, and affirmations affect our thoughts. All great tools!

I like “relax,” but I especially like “receive.” I never thought about using “receive” as a mantra, but it’s a great idea. If I can receive, then I am open and who knows what great things openness can lead to.

Alice, I’m so pleased you “get” the receiving dimension! Thank you!

I give myself gentle one-word commands all the time. Well, 2 words, if you count my name. A few times most days, I’ll bring my wandering mind back to the task at hand with, “Focus, Florence.” Depending on the circumstance, I have a couple other words. It never occurred to me to call it a chant since 3 times seems to do the trick for me.

Florence– so there you go: 3 times makes it a short chant. I use “Focus” in an encouraging tone, as my mind has a thousand things it would really like to think about at any given moment. 🤪 I also just say, “Kebba…” when I need to gather myself. Really helps! So much better than therapy.
